Of course, this kind of fabric has its own advantages. For example, the gloss and drape are good, and it looks quite high-end. However, when wearing this kind of clothing, you really have to be very careful to avoid being hooked. , and it is indeed not suitable for summer clothing, it is really boring!
Summer clothing materials include cotton, linen, cotton and linen mixed fabrics, silk and other fabrics. This summer, the clothing materials I made mainly include the following types.
1. Mixed fabrics of linen and cotton. Linen is famous for its breathability. Due to my own reasons, our family has never worn linen clothing except cotton or silk in summer. This year, I am learning to make clothes by myself. The biggest feature of learning to make clothes is that I am very interested in clothing materials. It seems that ramie fabrics are very popular this year, so I followed the trend and made some linen clothes for my family. Naturally, I let my thick-skinned husband wear them.
As a result, he felt uncomfortable wearing it. The material touched his body and the friction against his skin was uncomfortable. Alas, our family is spoiled.
This shows that hemp clothes, or clothes containing hemp, are really breathable, but have poor skin-friendliness.
I want to point out one difference here, which is the silk and linen fabrics. I bought a piece of Tencel and ramie material, but it feels very smooth and comfortable, regardless of its breathability. The skin-friendliness is really good.
2. Chiffon clothing material. Chiffon clothing is also an essential choice in summer. Chiffon is divided into silk chiffon and ordinary chiffon. I made ordinary chiffon, but I haven’t made silk chiffon yet, so I won’t discuss the characteristics of silk chiffon for the time being.
The ordinary chiffon I bought, one is plain woven and the other is tangled. Both types of chiffon are very breathable, but the plain one is more breathable than the messy one. The elegance is great, and they look beautiful on the body.
In terms of skin-friendliness, plain weave is better. I made two small skirts for my daughter using these two kinds of chiffon. The messy ones made her feel uncomfortable on her skin. It’s a bit prickly, but my daughter likes to wear it when it’s plain. As soon as she puts it on, she says it’s so comfortable.
However, chiffon clothing materials all have one characteristic, that is, they particularly like to tear the edges. Thin materials are easy to run when cutting, so whether it is cutting or sewing, There must be a method to control it. When cutting chiffon, first of all, you must put something with friction underneath. I used paper as a pad underneath, and then laid the chiffon fabric on top to cut. Secondly, don’t cut two layers together, because the fabric on the lower layer tends to go astray. I later discovered that if you cut one piece of fabric first, and then put this piece of fabric on another piece of fabric, the fit between the fabrics will be very good. Well, it’s not easy to run away. Third, when cutting, the fabric is very easy to tear. One way is to apply glue on the place to be cut when cutting. This can better solve the problem of tearing and prevent it from deforming during cutting. (Of course, I believe most people will be too lazy to do this particularly good method!) Fourth, and most importantly, the scissors must be fast. I have found that when it comes to cutting, there is no problem if a pair of scissors is particularly fast. The scissors cannot solve it.
To deal with the problem of broken edges, even if the edge is locked, the effect is not good, because as the edge locking machine is sewing, it will break, which is really disappointing. Headache. The solution is still the sizing method. However, there is still the problem of laziness. Finally, I finally discovered that the best way to deal with it is to sew.
Since the chiffon material is relatively thin, it can be used for sewing, which can not only better solve the problem of broken edges, but also eliminate the worry of too thick edges.
3. Cotton and cotton silk materials.
There are many kinds of cotton clothing materials, including T-shirt materials, modal materials, poplin materials, etc. Cotton materials are very good at absorbing sweat, being skin-friendly, and are also breathable. Not bad, and the cotton material is very easy to cut and sew, very suitable for novices.
I have never bought poplin material, so I won’t go into details. Here, I want to focus on cotton silk.
I really think this is a magical clothing material. First of all, the price is very cheap. Generally, you can buy a meter for less than 10 yuan. Secondly, cutting is very convenient. You can cut a small slit and tear it all the way to the bottom. You no longer have to worry about the problem of not being able to cut straight when cutting. Again, dress appropriatelyIn addition, it is comfortable, breathable, skin-friendly and sweat-absorbent. It feels like silk but not as delicate as silk. I like it.
4. Silk clothing materials
There are many kinds of silk clothing materials, including georgette, crepe de chine, silk chiffon, Silk Shunwei, Hualuo, stretch satin, Sangbo satin, etc. Here, I will mainly talk about Xiangyun yarn and Hongyun yarn.
Xiangyun yarn is really an excellent material, and it is my favorite material for summer clothes.
First of all, it can withstand tossing and is not as delicate as other silk materials. Although it is not like other silk materials that can be torn along the silk thread when cutting, it is stiff and easy to cut into shapes and can be cut straight. And I don’t like broken edges, so it’s okay even if I don’t lock the edges. Of course, I still made a simple lock. For me, a newbie in quilting, I really like the no-drawing and jumping yarn.
Secondly, it is very comfortable when worn. Some people say that it is a bit prickly when worn, maybe because of the different materials. The Xiangyun gauze I bought is not prickly at all when I wear it, and it feels very tangible when worn on my body. I made a dress with Xiangyun gauze at that time. The Tang suit with large inverted sleeves, when walking on the road, the wind blows gently, the feeling is really special and comfortable.
So, I couldn’t hold it back and bought a bunch of Xiangyun yarn, some made of pearls, some made of silk, and some with cracks. It was really a waste. ah!
As soon as I bought it, I bought a piece of Hongyun yarn among a bunch of Xiangyun yarn. I couldn’t tell the difference at the time. What was the difference between Hongyun yarn and Xiangyun yarn? I just liked it. I thought that flower was so beautiful that I thought about buying it to make a cheongsam.
However, after making it, I discovered that Hongyun gauze is harder than Xiangyun gauze and has less drape. When making a cheongsam, it must fit well to look good, like some softer fabrics. , it’s okay to put a little more amount, it will fit to the body, but Hongyun gauze is not like this, it must fit, the better it fits, the better it looks.
In other aspects, the two are similar. Relatively speaking, Xiangyun yarn is better than Hongyun yarn. I feel better.
It’s just the Xiangyun gauze material. I don’t know if it’s due to the material itself. When I iron it, it will produce a stinky smell, but other Clothing materials, especially the ones I bought from Huayao imitation silk, will produce a scent when ironed. It’s also strange.
Also, because the background color of Xiangyunsha’s clothing is basically black, it looks like a very old thing, and it has a sense of age. But it also has a rather old-fashioned feel. My husband just doesn’t like this dark feeling.
So, I bought some other silk fabrics to make clothes for my children. Among them is a kind of silk sangbo satin. When cutting this material, it is easy to slip like chiffon. Just use the same method to solve it. After the clothes are made, the children look particularly beautiful and comfortable when wearing them. I sighed at that time, after all, it was made of silk, but it looked different when I wore it. But this kind of material has a big disadvantage, that is, it wrinkles easily. It needs to be hung after ironing, otherwise it will be wrinkled next time.
I used elastic satin brocade to make culottes, but found that I was wrong. This kind of material seems a bit light and thin, and it is really not suitable for culottes because of the drape. It was a bit lacking, so it would be a good choice to make a fitted sleeveless dress!
