There are six common fabrics used to make T-shirts. Different fabrics have different characteristics.
1. Cotton is the most commonly used T-shirt fabric. It has the characteristics of comfort, good skin-friendliness, good breathability, good hygroscopicity, and environmental protection. Popular among T-shirt lovers. Cotton is divided into mercerized cotton, sugared cotton, cotton + cashmere, cotton + Lycra (high-quality spandex), cotton polyamide, cotton polyester and other textured cotton raw materials.
2. Tencel is wood cellulose fiber, blended with wool, polyester or other materials, suitable for flat knitting T-shirt products. The advantage is that it feels good and drape well; the disadvantage is that it takes a long time to wear, has a lot of friction, is easy to fluff, and has poor elasticity under strong tension.
3. Aoshima cotton is cellulose acetate fiber, and when blended with Tencel, it feels smoother. Suitable for flat knitting T-shirt products. The advantages are good hand feel and good drape; the disadvantages are also shortcomings: long wearing time, lots of friction, easy fluffing, and poor elasticity and tension.
4. Modal, bamboo fiber, soybean fiber and other cellulose fibers are regenerated cellulose like Tencel, Aoshima cotton, etc. Suitable for flat knitting T-shirt products. The advantages are that it feels good to the touch, is comfortable and breathable to wear, has a good drape when worn, and is more flattering to your figure. As for fluffing, easy deformation, and poor strength, it is inevitable to have a little bit of it after wearing it for a long time. We all prefer to wear modal T-shirts.
5. The advantages of 100% polyester are good color sense, strong wrinkle resistance and not easy to deform. The disadvantages are poor breathability, making it unbearable when worn on hot days, and may even make you feel breathless at times, and poor sweat absorption. Generally suitable for sports T-shirts, almost all lower-priced T-shirts are made of this material.
6. Nylon (polyamide) Nylon is the most breathable variety among chemical fibers, but it is still worse than cotton. However, its characteristics are smooth feel and good color, which is resistant to sweat or rain. It dries easily when wet. The quick-drying clothes and quick-drying pants on the market are all made of this material. Generally, it needs to go through a fake knitting process before it can be used on T-shirt products.
