Xinhua News Agency Hong Kong, October 8th Feature: Close-up: Hong Kong “Apple fans” mourn the founder of Apple, Steve Jobs
The weekend after Steve Jobs passed away, Hong Kong’s “Apple fans”, known as “Apple fans”, gathered at the Apple store in Central to pay their respects to this innovative entrepreneur in their own way.
On the 8th, the Hong Kong International Financial Center was as noisy as before. The Apple flagship store inside the center was still crowded with people, but the people standing outside the store were silent. Some of them are blond, blue-eyed, or with yellow skin and black hair. Many of them are holding iPhones and other Apple products. Some even wear colorful clothes. Looking at the glass windows covered with sticky notes at the entrance of the store, many people picked up their mobile phones to take photos or videos.
The notes come in various forms, with both pictures and texts, and a mixture of Chinese and English. The apple with a corner missing is crying, and the front image of Steve Jobs is reflected in the missing corner of the apple… “Apple fans”, that is, supporters of Apple products, use pictures to express their sadness intuitively. “Why is that unfair? You left too early,” expressed the resentment of “fruit fans” in one sentence. “I love Nokia, but the iPad is really awesome” – non-Apple fans also paid tribute to Steve Jobs.
“Change” and “Thank you” appear frequently in messages. Some are concise: “You changed the world, thank you”; some are tender: “You know, my love for you has never changed. Your dedication, love and perfection… I am grateful to have you in this era. You are an IT person We are proud of you.”
Bouquets and other souvenirs are placed on both sides of the “message wall”. Two Apple product packaging boxes stand against the wall, becoming small “tombstones.” One box has a color photo of Jobs on it, and the other box has a cartoon of Jobs holding the Big Apple and smiling. A bottle of wine, a silver apple, and a Steve Jobs doll, along with large and small bouquets of flowers, surrounded these two “monuments.”
The Apple store was crowded. The store clerk said that customer traffic has not increased due to Steve Jobs’s death. “There are so many people every day.” This newly closed Apple flagship store burned the store’s Apple lantern on the 6th to mourn Steve Jobs.
In Sanlian Bookstore on Johnston Road, Hong Kong Island, various books about Steve Jobs are hung all over the wall and stand in eye-catching places in the aisles. The covers of these books are based on colorful colors, and the candlelight pattern on the upper left book is particularly conspicuous. From time to time, some people look through these books, and some people pick up one and go to the cashier.
Because of longing, I want to understand more; because of understanding, I miss you even more. Hong Kong “fruit fans”, meditate on Steve Jobs. (End)
